VALE LACHLAN HILE

When Lachie Hile joined the Willoughby Swimming Club at the Willoughby Leisure Centre, he stood out as a youngster who was determined to succeed. His competitive spirit was evident even at this early stage of development, and as he matured, this attribute earned Lachie success beyond expectation.

His nuggety physique stood him in good stead both in the pool and on the rugby field, and his passion for both sporting endeavours made for a demanding schedule during his primary and early secondary school years.

Lachie lapped up the commitment required for success in the pool, and his healthy appetite for demanding and challenging training routines kept him clear of many competitors.

Lachie found that extra burst required to touch the wall first far more often than not, particularly in the longer events, where true grit and tenacity made the difference between winning or not.

His infectious joy and energy on competition day inspired many of his Willoughby teammates, and contributed greatly to encourage many memorable achievements by his peers

Lachie’s efforts within the coaching environment were exceptional. He was a pleasure to have in a training group, always willing to commit 100% to achieving his desired performance, and frequently reaching personal best times at the conclusion of a training set.

As a coach I could not have asked for a more enthusiastic and dedicated swimmer to work with, and my time coaching Lachie was rewarded in spades through his many competitive successes. They remain some of my most memorable and enjoyable coaching moments.

I was as shocked and confused as many I’m sure when I learned of the sudden passing of Lachie Hile. He was a popular young man with the world at his feet, a recent Law graduate and extremely revered by all who had the pleasure to call him a friend.

His infectious sense of humour, intelligence and sensitivity were all attributes we will treasure in his memory.

Sadly taken too young, we will all hold Lachie dearly in our thoughts forever.

Rest In Peace young man.
